With all we are trying to do at Banks Hardwoods, the end goal is to attempt to make life in the hardwood business easier for our customers. Quality Control
- Our quality control system originated from Edward Deming’s work.
- From the beginning we have believed that the higher the quality coming into our facilities, the lower our costs will be.
- We buy from the best sawmills we can find. We do not concern ourselves with paying higher prices for great quality. It pays for itself. We give lower quality mills chances to conform to our standards, but if values do not line up, we do not buy from them.
- Our facilities are built for protecting quality.
- We do not bring in what we cannot quickly and efficiently process. The faster you can get lumber on sticks and under air drying sheds the better.
- We protect our lumber with end wax.
- We set high standards for stickering lumber keeping sticks straight, using grooved, non-tannic acid sticks and grooved blocks, to avoid stain.
- Our lumber is placed in our air sheds meticulously to maximize airflow.
- Our experienced kiln operators do not ever rush the drying process. We adhere to drying schedules for each species, honed over the years to our particular regionality.
- Rarely do we have moisture or stress issues with our lumber because we check these things before lumber is taken from our kilns and as it is run through the planer.
- Our equipment is first class, and our maintenance staff does an excellent job ensuring that our preventative maintenance is carried out to maintain all quality tolerances.
- We tally lumber as accurately and honestly and consistently as we possibly can as we know this is a critical element of value, yield and trust for our customers.
- Our packaging is one if the final displays of the pride we have in our work. We realize appearance is important in making a good impression.
